Mechanical Engineer (Heat Exchangers, Thermal Management, Manufacturing, Quality)

 

Job Description

 

Altex is developing innovative, high performance heat exchangers and energy systems, which will be deployed in vehicles and power systems that are subject to real-world conditions, including shock, vibration, and environmental hazards. Positions are open for dynamic candidates with experience in heat exchangers and small chemical reactors. This position is particularly related to the design, manufacture, and validation of brazed and welded assemblies, produced in short-run and low volume production runs. Candidates will be part of the Altex engineering team, responsible for the design, development, fabrication and testing of various system components, primarily related to thermal management and heat exchange.

 

Job Functions

 

The candidate who shows superior capabilities in some or all of the below job functions will be considered:

 

  Designing prototype and low production volume heat exchangers and thermal systems

  Revising, improving, and ruggedizing  existing designs for field and laboratory testing

  Providing input and technical assistance to Altex’s manufacturing partners

  Creating solid models and manufacturing drawings of heat exchangers, test fixtures, and assembly/brazing fixtures, using SolidWorks

  Procuring system and test set up components, interacting with inside and outside resources

  Producing reports, test procedures, results and data analysis

  Assisting in formulating business plans and preparing proposals

  Assisting in the commercialization of Altex-developed technologies

 

Relevant Experience/Requirements

 

  Bachelor or MS Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering required

  Four years or more related work experience required

  Previous experience in the manufacturing of furnace-brazed assemblies in aluminum, stainless steel, and/or steel required

  Previous experience with heat exchanger design, fuel cells, or reactors design/specification is a plus

  Previous experience launching low-volume production efforts to demanding specifications

  Methodical in design of systems and validation testing, particularly to MIL-SPEC or aerospace standards

  Skilled in documenting activities and maintaining records

  Ability to manage time, resources and staff

  Ability to direct technicians

  Good communication and team working skills

  Comfortable working in a rapid pace environment, and handling multiple projects simultaneously

Altex provides very competitive benefits packages to all full-time employees.  Employees are provided three weeks Paid Time Off (PTO) and ten days of paid holiday.  Our insurance programs cover medical, dental, vision and worker’s compensation and life insurance.  Altex also has a retirement plan that employees qualify for, after one year of continuous employment with the company.  This program includes a tax deferred retirement account, which the employee controls through a family of mutual funds.  Historically, the company has contributed 5-10% of the employees’ base salary to the employees’ accounts.  In addition, bonus targets are set at the beginning of each yearly review period, which are executed if the staff meets the mutually agreed objectives.  Our interest in assembling the compensation package is to ensure that the staff is rewarded for making both Altex and themselves a success.
